The Lismore East floating solarfarm was designed and constructed by Suntrix. At the time of its construction it was the largest floating solarfarm yet installed in Australia so far.

This innovative solution was selected to overcome spatial constraints at the East Lismore Sewage Treatment Plant. The overflow pond at the Plant provides a large body of water with low velocity, perfect for a floating solarfarm. The cooling properties of water also help the solar panels last longer and perform better, while increased shade over the pond reduces evaporation and algal growth.

A further advantage of the floating system is that Lismore City Council will be able to easily expand the system. The initial 100kW system will meet around 20% of the site’s daytime electricity usage, making the scope for expansion highly valuable.
